What's the big deal with an old 710 or 710z? Simple, they are tanks that are nearly indestructible. Not only that, they are easy to take apart and maintain. Every surf angler should have one, if for no other reason, to use as a back up reel.
They are inexpensive and parts are readily available. With the use of Berklely Fireline, these reels have an excellent line capacity which negates the need for the larger, big brother 704 or 704z.
